Description

This Kurdish Jaf bag face dates to around 1900.

It has the classic hooked diamond design, with a quirky detail in the inner border, where the weaver decided to move the meander inside the white outlines further to the edges of the bag after about five centimetres of her work.

The colour range in this weaving is fairly restrained with three shades of red, two shades of blue, two shades of green, dark brown and off-white, the latter two derived from undyed wool. All the dyes are based on natural dye stuffs.

The bag is woven in wool on a wool foundation, with excellent quality wool which is so frequently found in weavings from this Kurdish tribe. It is in excellent condition with a full pile.
